So, who are we? Where did we come from? What are we doing?
mFood by Feral Innovations, Inc. is a food truck location app. This project started back in 2016 after Ferdinand Rios (CEO and Founder) stumbled upon a Cousins Maine Lobster food truck during his lunch break. Running short on time, he thought to himself, 'I'm going to stop by there tomorrow'.
As you can guess, the following day when he returned to eat from the truck, it was gone. This only spurred the cogs and got him thinking. 'What if there was an app that showed all the food trucks, all the time?'. Shortly thereafter, mFood was born.
For the next two years, Ferdinand devoted his time to the creation of this application. By using a sophisticated network of data retrieval bots, he compiled a comprehensive list of all the public schedules and locations of over 26,000 mobile food vendors. This list would become the first nationwide database of food trucks.
As a consumer, what does this mean for you?
Well, when you download mFood, you will have the largest and most complete listing of food trucks in the United States. Pretty cool, right? Now you can find that truck you ate at once, but never saw again. You can even use our app to verify that the truck you are looking for, is still in business.
But as a food truck owner, how can mFood help you?
We thought long and hard about what we wanted this application to achieve while designing it. Questions began to pop up; How can we help support the food truck industry as a whole, along with the independent truck owners? So we began asking the owners themselves what they needed, and what they wanted to see. Local Napa Valley La Mexicana food truck owner Chris Montanez was a huge resource for us. His insight and consistent feedback was crucial in our development process, and we got some great ideas! With our first release, we offered free scheduling tools, menu tools, social media streaming, and live GPS tracking. And that’s just the beginning...
Where’s this blog headed?
For starters, we’ll delve in deeper next week to begin introducing features, explaining what each one is and what it does. Moving forward, we will touch on events, new features, and upcoming releases of the app. We’ll even be throwing in some national food truck news and industry related tech improvements.
